Description
Greece, Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A breathtaking trefoil oinochoe created in a pottery workshop in the Apulia region of southern Italy where potters were known for introducing additional pigments to black glazed vessels. The surface decoration adorning the neck features two bands of beautifully painted white and yellow grapevines and tendrils separated by a red band. The body is decorated with an undulating motif of vertical ribs. Size: 5" W x 7.45" H (12.7 cm x 18.9 cm)
Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s

Condition
Repaired at base of neck and top of handle. With some wear to pigment on surface and small chips commensurate with age. Beautiful iridescence on surface.
