Description
A beautiful Greek black-figure lekythos, c. 500 - 460 BC, featuring a siren holding a lyre standing atop a mound, a nude male figure stands to right before, looking back. On either side of the pair are standing women, each wearing a long chiton and himation, Meander border above, horizontal black lines below. The shoulder is adorned with two rows of vertical tongues and the foot and mouth both solid black. H: 8 1/2 in (21.6 cm). A wonderful example with light deposits. Ex collection of Eugene Behlen, Florida, formerly of the Smithsonian Institution.
