Description
A superb and important neolithic Chinese jade congÊfrom the Longshan culture of northeast China, 3rd. millennium B.C. a very finely carved and finished, tall and elongated, a very fine pre-dynastic ceremonial cong. Of very nice form and color, of native nephrite jade, very Êcrisp and detailed face carvings , eight vertically down each of its four corners. So, 32 heads in total, each with well defined eyes, nose and mouth, each topped with a horizontally linear crown. This is tall and narrow, it rests with small end down, an important archaic ceremonial piece, they know not the exact context or use. A very good yellow green jade with excellent brown to tan mottling, the central hole with its obvious bow drilling, wider at ends down to narrower at its mid meeting point. An important archaic jade, one of the very finest.. Ê 7.25" tall x 1 5/8" at its squared widest. -Due to a late but very appropriate arrival, we have selected out fine and some important Asian antiques and art from the property of a New England collector's heir, a good part of which was gotten from Skinner's Auction & other noted sources decades ago.
