Description
This large archaic jade turtle amulet is possibly from the Hongshan, a neolithic culture in northwest China (3500 to 2000 BC). Hongshan burial artifacts include some of the earliest known examples of jade working. Carefully cleaned and polished, centuries of patina are still evident but only increase the natural beauty. The amulet is 2 3/4 inches wide, 1 3/4 inches high and approximately 1/4 inch deep.
Condition
The nephrite exhibits surface alteration and luster from partial restoration. From a private collection, this pei is clean, without notable flaws, and will be sold without restoration (as is).
