Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 100 to 600 CE. A fantastical copper tumi depicting an avian-bodied lord or deity standing atop its handle. The figure stands proudly and is dressed in elaborate regalia including a grand sun-disc headdress, large earspools, and a tunic. He holds a branch staff in his right hand and some fruits or nuts in his left. His body is fully avian, with a long beak and feathered back. This tumi exhibits unbelievable detail and rich Moche symbolism, characteristic of a people who subscribed to animism and believed in the supernatural spirits of nature. Size: 3.05" W x 5.15" H (7.7 cm x 13.1 cm); 6.6" H (16.8 cm) on included custom stand.
