Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chimu, ca. 1250 to 1450 CE. A lovely blackware mold-made stirrup vessel with its upper walls are mold-pressed with two identical panels of birds in flight chasing fish. A fabulous example of Chimu blackware pottery, replete with an elegant form and rich iconography. In the Pre-Columbian world, birds were associated with the celestial realm and were thought to act as messengers between humans and their deities. Size: 5" W x 7.6" H (12.7 cm x 19.3 cm)
