Description
**Originally Listed At $150**
Pre-Columbian, Chancay, modern day Peru, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. Twin textile panels, from different tunics, but both done in brown (probably once red) and creamy white camelid fibers woven into avian designs. One is a striped panel alternating between creamy background and birds with long beaks and bodies made of repeating triangles. The other is a more abstract pattern of similar birds placed in an almost tesselated pattern with other triangular designs. Size of largest: 11.75" W x 9.75" H (29.8 cm x 24.8 cm)
The people of the early cultures in the Andes buried their dead in bundles with woven textiles; the patterns on these would have told their viewer immediately what clan or social group the wearer belonged to.
Provenance: Ex-Slavin Collection, acquired in Peru & Bolivia, 1971-1972
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
