Description
Gold handled walking stick with Buell Family history along with several CDVs/photographs of Nashvillians including Gen. Don Carlos Buell, General George Buell's Calvary helmet plume, and T. Vance Little's research file on the Brien-Buell families of Nashville. Rochie Brien, daughter of Nashville judge John S. Brien, married Union general George Buell in Nashville circa 1865. The walking stick, illegibly inscribed "to J.S.B.," is believed to have belonged to Judge Brien. Estate of T. Vance Little. Note - Little managed the estate of Rochette Buell, the grand daughter of Rochie Buell (wife of General George P. Buell). Transcripts from writer Steve Eng to Vance Little recounts General George Buell's Western Indian War period (transcripts are included in this lot). Rochette turned over her family papers to the Tennessee State Library and Archive in 1960, and Vance Little is credited with saving several items that were going to be thrown out at her death. Among these items were General George Buell's plume from his helmet and the walking stick contained in this lot.
