Description
PAIR OF SOUTHERN FOLK ART CREOLE PORTRAITS, watercolor and pinprick on paper, each cut-and-pasted figure in a landscape setting, wearing brightly colored garments and distinctive head wrap, one signed "William Young" in period script verso. Each housed under glass in a 19th-century gilt frame. First half 19th century. 7 3/4" x 5 3/4" sight, 8 3/4" x 6 3/4" OA.
One example (figure facing left) in very good visual condition with minor toning, some discoloration at sight edges. Other example (figure facing right) with moderate toning, foxing, and discoloration, small edge tears. Frames with moderate wear and discoloration. Not examined out of frames.
