Authentic handcolored map of Texas with 1860 date but from Mitchell’s New General Atlas published 1864 by S. Augustus Mitchell. Detailed early map of Texas, immediately prior to the start of the Civil War. The state is disected by the Santa Fe Route, with early railroads radiating from Houston. Western part of the state is comprised of only four large counties, El Paso, Presidio, Bexar Territory and Young Territory. Features a large inset of Galveston Bay. Nice early example of the map. Half-inch repaired tear at bottom center paper edge (does not touch frame). Few small and light spots at lower left corner margin. Pinhead sulfur spot at right margin. Two very small and light spots in map which appear to be errant brush strokes by the original handcolor artist. Good impression. 10.75 x 13.375.
