Egypt, Coptic culture, ca. 100 to 200 CE. A wonderful group of tightly-woven Coptic textile fragments, hand-woven from spun cotton fibers in hues of citrine, wheat, umber, espresso, gold, emerald, and ruby. The smaller fragment displays a series of abstract geometric shapes, perhaps part of a larger flower or insect. The larger fragment has two abstruse insectile shapes enclosed within a pair of border panels comprised of conjoined geometric shapes. A beautiful set! Size of largest: 3.5" W x 2.5" H (8.9 cm x 6.4 cm).

Both items are fragments of larger textile items. Each item has age-commensurate surface wear, fraying to interior and peripheral threads, and some fading and discoloration, otherwise very good.
