Description
Near East / Holy Land, Byzantine Empire, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A well-preserved example of a cast bronze cross pendant with one side decorated with an incised figure of Christ, labeled in Greek on the upper arm. The back of the cross has a more abstract motif, perhaps meant to represent the four Evangelists around a central globe. A suspension loop extends from the upper arm of the cross. Size: 2.7" W x 4.2" H (6.9 cm x 10.7 cm); 5.4" H (13.7 cm) on included custom stand.
