Description
Eastern Europe, Neolithic Period, possibly Cucuteni-Tripolyte culture, ca. late 4th millennium BCE. A beautiful bowl with a rounded base and flared, thick sides. Two nipple or horn-like nubs protrude from the rounded lower base. The exterior has black-painted abstract motifs, with a series of half-moon-like shapes painted around the rim and linear bands around the base. This bowl represents some of the earliest ceramic traditions in Europe, with the Neolithic period defined by the gradual development of agriculture and pottery. Size: 10.2" W x 5" H (25.9 cm x 12.7 cm)
