Description
Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A beautiful wheel-thrown blackware pottery olpe with a circular base, an apple-shaped body, a rounded shoulder, a squat neck with a flared rim, and an applied strap handle joining rim to shoulder. The entire vessel is coated with a lustrous black glaze, and faint areas of rainbow-hued iridescence adorn the base. Size: 2.75" W x 3.125" H (7 cm x 7.9 cm).

Condition
Restoration to handle curve with resurfacing and overpainting along break line. Minor nicks to rim, handle, body, and base, with fading and small chips to areas of glaze. Light earthen deposits throughout, and nice rainbow iridescence beneath base. Old inventory label beneath base.
