Description
"Yorkshiremen, Be not Dupes of a Faction…. " Printed at Leeds Mercury-Office, by Edward Baines, [ca. 1807.] Broadside on laid paper. Laid down, 3" tear to right margin, light marginal chipping, creasing, the whole being age-toned. ****************************** Scarce political broadside from an early 19th c. election in Yorkshire, where Henry Lascelles was standing as a candidate. Edward Baines was an abolitionist who strongly opposed the election of Henry Lascelles, and it appears Baines felt that Lascelles was disingenuously channeling anti-Papist fervor into an effort to garner votes.
