Description
Baum, L. Frank. QUEEN ZIXI OF IX OR, THE STORY OF THE MAGIC CLOAK. New York: The Century Co., 1905. 4to (9.5" X 7".) Publisher's pictorial cloth, housed in custom folding case. Front board with light staining to lower corner, contents clean, text-block square, an excellent example. ************************* FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, INSCRIBED BY BAUM ON AN INSERTED LEAF: "Merrily yours / L. Frank Baum." This story was first published in the St. Nicholas magazine from November 1904 to October 1905. Although not an Oz story, this fantasy tale in which a magic cloak, woven by fairies, will grant just one wish for each of its wearers as long as the cloak is not stolen, is considered by many to be Baum's finest fantasy tale. Appears to be the same copy sold by Sotheby's in 1998 and by Christie's in 2014.
