Description
Rare Rookwood carved Vellum vase with highly stylized floral decoration thought to be done by Kiiche Yamada in 1906. Yamada is credited with a rare handful of Rookwood pieces from this period and his possible presence at Rookwood is mentioned in Cummings, Rookwood Pottery Potpourri on page 84. He did work at Grueby in Boston and it is impossible to know for sure whether this is his work. What is clear is the quality of the 3 pieces we have attribute to him over the years. All are amazing in design and execution. Marks include the company logo, the date, shape 30 F and the incised initials KY on the bottom. Height 6 1/4 inches. Uncrazed and unique.
