Description
Arthur Conant (1889-1966) for Rookwood Pottery
rare earthenware Vellum glaze scenic vase featuring a snow covered Japanese seaport village at the foot of a large mountain, shape number 943D
Cincinnati, Ohio, 1916
matte glazed ceramic
impressed factory marks, incised artist's monogram, wheel ground "X"
4 1/2"dia x 8 1/2"h
Catalog Note:
Conant's first work at Rookwood seems to have been done in 1916. Most of his Vellum glaze examples come from this year and he quickly began to transition to using gloss finishes. His interest in Asian themes continued, but Vellum scenics are certainly uncommon.
