Description
A FRENCH PROVINCIAL CARVED CHERRY FIVE-DRAWER COMMODE, ILE-DE-FRANCE, CIRCA 1750-1800, the serpentine front commode with gently bowed pieced top, configured with three drawers over two drawers, the fronts with carved addorsed arches centering a quatrefoil mounted with later gilt bronze handles and lock escutcheons, the shaped apron joining rounded front legs with carved flute to each side, inset arched panel to the sides, beech secondary wood, peg construction. Height: 32" Width: 49 1/2" Depth: 22 1/2"
Condition
In overall fair condition, with heavy wear, losses, and repair to the top, worm holes throughout, heavy wear to the front legs, locks, escutcheons, and handles later replacements, with good waxed finish and patina.
