Description
A GEORGE III PERIOD CLEAR CRYSTAL DECEPTIVE TOASTING GLASS, ENGLISH, CIRCA 1800, the bell form bowl with thickened walls, raised on angular knopped stem with spreading foot, with printed label of the Hove Museum, hand numbered 9129, height: 4 1/4"; together with a clear crystal wine stem with bell form bowl with slice cut base, raised on faceted baluster form stem with squared octagonal knop, internal air bubble, and spreading foot, probably Continental, circa 1900-1940, height: 6 1/8". NOTE: Designed to restrict the amount of spirits in each pour, deceptive glasses allowed toastmaster's to remain sober during a long night of reverie. Provenance: Hove Museum, Hove, England (deaccessioned).
Condition
In overall good condition with no evidence of chips, nicks, or cracks; minor surface rubbing and scratching commensurate with age and use.
