Item Details
Description
A George III mahogany and brass bound peat bucket with hinged swing handle,
the concentric ribbed sides with plain bands, 64cm high overall approximately
This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: TP
TP Lot will be moved to an offsite storage location (Cadogan Tate, Auction House Services, 241 Acton Lane, London NW10 7NP, UK) and will only be available for collection from this location at the date stated in the catalogue. Please note transfer and storage charges will apply to any lots not collected after 14 calendar days from the auction date.
Condition
In good decorative condition commensurate with age and use, 64cm with handle up, approx 41.5cm to the rim, diameter 37cm, bottom of the base 29cm.

Please note the handle is original, the brass handle and strapped bands with typical old scratches and some tarnished spots and marks and with old tarnish and streaking to the crevices and edges, and with a couple of small dents in places, the bands have slightly moved, probably because of wood shrinkage, but this is not a serious issue although some minor filling would be of benefit, the timber with some old historic scratches, hairline cracks, scuffs and knocks and with old polish to the horizontal ribbing and some streaked black marks in places, the timber appears to have been re-waxed and polished (but maybe not recently) the inside lacking the original liner and with old dirt and remnants of streaking from old polish and some old scuffs, cracks and blemishes, there is evidence of whitish bloom from some minor water damage where the peat bucket has been used to hold a plant, this does not appear to be too serious although there a few more open cracks in places, sold with old tin bucket, which is associated and of more modern manufacture.
