Ancient Tarentine Terracotta Antifix of the Goddess Io, Magna Grecia, Circa 4th century BC. A beautiful head plaque in relief, the idealized beautiful female with oval face, smiling mouth, and almond-shaped eyes, wavy hair under diadem crown and falling in curly locks over the forehead and ears. Size 7 inches H. + custom mount. Encrusted surface with some losses. Compare W. Schürmann, Catalog of Ancient Terracottas in the Badische Landesmuseum, Karlsruhe (1989) p.87, 296 -301. Provenance: From Bavarian private collection since the 1960s. Rare and choice.
