Description
Central Asia, Bactrian, ca. 2500 to 2250 BCE. A hefty ball-shaped mace head, hand-carved from a mottled green stone with dark inclusions, with a central hafting hole oriented vertically through the middle. The top opening boasts a surrounding star in low relief with incised striations inside each point, and the body exhibits three large, left-facing zoomorphic figures. Each figure resembles an abstract feline, perhaps lions or lionesses, with some having large manes and all bearing sinuous tails. Size: 2.5" Diameter x 1.6" H (6.4 cm x 4.1 cm).

Condition
Surface wear and minor abrasions commensurate with age, light fading to some incised details, and some light roughness near hafting openings, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
