Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hand-built and highly-burnished brownware face mask of an ovoid form with stylized features including almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, a recessed mouth, and bar-shaped ears, all beneath a tall, rounded brow. Two small lateral piercings and one top piercing surround the face, perhaps for attaching perishable decorations at some point in the past. Evidence of fire-darkening is visible on the mask's left side as well as a small area of the forehead, perhaps from being oriented incorrectly inside the kiln. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 6.25" W x 7.5" H (15.9 cm x 19 cm); 10" H (25.4 cm) on included custom stand.
