A beautiful Greek Gnathian-ware epichysis, c. 4th Century BC, the body spool-shaped with narrow neck and spout, the sides with a molded lion head boss, the handle tall and elegant. The vessel is decorated with an array of grape tendrils, bands, pellets and rays around the body. A cymation pattern adorns the rim and a meandering band decorates the body bordered by double lines. H: 6 2/3 in (17cm). A lovely example of a decorative vessel used mainly for pouring oil. Ex South London private collection.
