A rare and rather unique book by an anonymous author named Philonomos. ‘Power of the Civil Magistrate’ is an 18th-century work which describes the roles of governmental executive powers, powers given to sheriffs and officers, maintaining security of persons and property, upkeep of military troops, and methods addressing these subjects in Great Britain. Much of this work was taken from Thomas More’s groundbreaking work ‘Utopia’.
