1739 1st ed English Civil War Irish Massacre Charles I Thomas Carte 2v Set
Thomas Carte was an early 18th-century English historian who composed a collection of letters and papers that were written in the mid-1600s, most of which provide incredible and important details on the English Civil War. Carte is most remembered for his controversial correspondence with Henry Chandler over the Irish Massacre in 1641 in which he defended King Charles I and the Stuarts, a stance that made high unpopular with the both the public and magistrates.
This rare first edition was published in a two-volume set in 1739.
