Description
1741 Flavius JOSEPHUS Jewish Judaism Antiquities of Jews Irish Whiston English
“And when the book of Daniel was showed to Alexander the Great, wherein Daniel declared that one of the Greeks should destroy the empire of the Persians, he supposed that himself was the person intended.”
– Josephus, Antiquity of the Jews
A rare, 1741 printing of the ‘Jewish Histories’ of Josephus. This edition is beautifully illustrated with a view of the Tabernacle of Moses as well as large folding engraved map of Palestine. Many editions of the works of Josephus appeared in the 18th-century, but this English edition by William Whiston is particularly desirable. He added notes and commentary to this translation that would reappear in subsequent editions throughout the 1700s.
