Description
1633 Hippocrates Aphorisms + Galen Commentary Medicine Greek Health SECRETS
“Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity.” ― Hippocrates
Known as the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates was a Greek physician from the 4th-century BC. He is recognized for his lasting contributions to the medical field by establishing it as a scientific study and not just a philosophy. One of his most important book was ‘Aphorisms’ in which Hippocrates wrote short proverbial principles on health and medicine. He discussed the secrets to long life, the importance of a healthy diet, appropriate amount of sleep, cures for pleurisy, pneumonia, melancholia, vertigo, dysentery, epilepsy, coughs, and which season each disease is most likely to occur.
Hippocrates’ ‘Aphorisms’ were a popular source of commentary throughout the following centuries, including the famous Claudius Galen commentary. Galen, a 2nd-century physician to Roman emperors, produced hundreds of books and treatises on medicine, in fact he is often considered the most prolific and important physicians of ancient Greece, and next to Hippocrates, the most notable physician of antiquity. (HoH 18).
This extremely valuable and rare 1633 edition was edited and collected by Adriano Tollius of Lyon.
