West Africa, probably Ivory Coast, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. Two attractive beaded necklaces, one comprised of dozens and dozens of cut, disc-shaped, flat beads, the other feature seven rare Arca shell beads which are also called "Hippo Teeth" due to their resemblance to large teeth. These particular "Hippo Teeth" beads were most likely carved from the inner shell where the ridges were far less prominent. A gorgeous pair of necklaces made from elegant, well-worn, hand-carved beads. Size: Hippo's Teeth necklace measures 15.5" L (39.4 cm); largest tooth beads measure ~ 2.375" L x 1.375" W (6 cm x 3.5 cm); other necklace measures 19" L (48.3 cm); beads measure ~ .25" in diameter (0.6 cm)

Condition
Well-worn with normal surface wear commensurate with age and use. A few chips to some of the Hippo Teeth beads, but otherwise very good.
