Description

An attractive pair of red glass, brass, and stone European trade and African made beads, all strung as wearable necklaces in modern times. The single strand necklace has red ovoid or colodonte beads separated by jasper flower spacer beads and 3 brass spheres near the center of the strand, all arranged on a wire with a lobster clasp. Colodonte beads are often found in West Africa and resemble bird eggs or tomatoes- and are sometimes called tomato beads. The other necklace is made of 3 cotton strands threaded with dozens of ovoid Venetian glass beads, colored to resemble coral. Size (single strand necklace): 14.75" L (37.5 cm); (largest bead): 0.6" L x 0.5" W (1.5 cm x 1.3 cm); (multi-strand necklace): 15.75" L (40 cm); (beads): 0.25" L x 0.125" W (0.6 cm x 0.3 cm)
