Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $150**

Central Asia, India, ca. 19th century CE. A solid bronze statue depicting a Hindu figure standing with outspread arms upon a tiered pedestal. The figure probably represents Chakravartin - the ideal universal ruler, a model of fairness in his reign, who ethically oversees the universe. Chakravartin derives from the Sanskrit word chakra meaning "wheel" and vartin meaning "one who turns" - in other words Chakravartin is understood as a ruler whose "chariot wheels roll everywhere" or whose actions are unobstructed. He is the secular counterpart of Buddha - the enlightened one - with whom he shares several attributes. Size: 4.25" H (10.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Los Angeles, California, USA collection
