Description
**Originally Listed At $150**
Sino-Tibet, ca. 20th century CE. A Tibetan gau (or prayer box) with a hammered copper back and body, twin horizontal suspension loops on either side, and a stylized brass frontal cover with an open center. Since gau boxes are used as small shrines, it would have been kept in the prayer niche of the family home. The small glass window on the front displays a colorful picture of a Buddhist deity, and the verso is able to be removed; a thin leather strap, strung between both side loops, holds the back shut. Frequently, a special prayer, i.e. sutra pages, would be placed inside. Size: 2.125" H (5.4 cm).
Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
