Description
Two sixth plate daguerreotypes.
First we see the woman with the painted backdrop associated with Samuel Broadbent. It is confirmed in the lower left corner of the mat: "BROADBENT." The expertise of the daguerreotypist is noted as if Broadbent anticipated the oval mat in place. The velvet pad of the second daguerreotype reads "PURNELL 159 CHESTNUT ST. PHILAD." This would be Lemuel H. Purnell, who was at 159 Chestnut St. (with no other loccation listed) in 1853. (source: Directory of Pennsylvania Photographers 1839-1900, by Linda A. Reis and Jay W. Ruby). Split full cases on each.
This lot is a generous donation from Ken Nelson and Meg Kaufman. 100% OF THE PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE DAGUERREIAN SOCIETY.
