Description
Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A bronze socketed axe head in one of the most iconic weapon forms from ancient Luristan. The axe has a dramatically curved blade that terminates at a point, with wide top and bottom edges. The socket is narrow and tubular, and from it protrude five thin spikes opposite the blade with an additional bronze crossbar. This elaborate axe head was made in a single cast utilizing the lost wax technique, an oft-chosen method of weapon creation by ancient Luristan weapon-makers. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 8.125" L x 4" H (20.6 cm x 10.2 cm); 6.25" H (15.9 cm) on included custom stand.
