Description
Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan culture, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. This bronze axe head, with its bright turquoise patina, is a delight to behold. A narrow, rectangular socket and, long, flared butt, and curved blade all indicate that this was an item not made for military use, but instead as a ceremonial or funerary item. One theory about these small weapons is that they were made for the graves of children. Includes custom stand. Size: 4.1" W x 3.3" H (10.4 cm x 8.4 cm)
