Description
A nice Egyptian glazed steatite shrine fragment, Late Period, c. 664 - 332 BC, one side featuring the head of the goddess Ma'at with hands raised, the shrine with rectangular recessed areas and vertical grooves on lintel. The opposite side features the upper part of a woman standing right in pose of adoration, a lotus flower between her arms, a square panel in upper left with hieroglyphic text and additional text in a partial vertical register. She is bordered by horizontal and vertical lines and the lintel with vertical grooves. A lovely piece with remaining light green glaze. 2 1/2 x 2 1/4 in (6.4 x 5.8cm). Ex Norwich, UK, private collection, acquired in the 1960's.
