Description
1620 Robert Bellarmine of Galileo Inquisition Catholic Controversy Dogma Antichrist POPE
“The definitive defense of papal power!” – Springboro, Hobbes and BellarmineWhile Robert Bellarmine was lecturing at Roman College, he wrote his most famous work on dogmatics – ‘Disputationes’. It was the first book to attempt to organize the controversies and heresies of the time, and was strengthened by its arguments against Protestantism. Thomas Hobbes and Theodore Beza were specifically known to adamantly write counter-arguments to this book.
The most important part of the book regards the pope and the powers he possesses, much like that of a monarchial government. Lesser discussions consist of the Antichrist, fathers of the church, faith and morals, and monotheistic importance. Title page engraved etching on wood by Leonard Gaultier.
