Description
1749 Astronomy Cosmology Optics Illustrated Philosophical Grammar Benj Martin
Benjamin Martin was an important 18th-century scholar who compiled dictionaries and encyclopedias, and was best-known for ‘Philosophia’; a work that was developed out a series of lectures on experimental philosophy. He devoted his studies and experiments to optics, mechanics, hydraulics, natural phenomena, and astronomy.
Martin’s lessons covered the use of celestial and terrestrial globes, the philosophy of sound and music, the physical makeup and philosophical ideas of the heavens, and principles of animals, plants, and minerals. While the contents of this book are quite popular, the added engravings make this set even more desirable. Some of the more desirable plates depict telescopes, armillary spheres, solar system views, sun and moon eclipses, and more!
Martin’s ‘Philosophical Grammar’ covers broad topics of philosophy including somatology, cosmology, aerology, as well as geology – focusing on the physical natures of philosophy.
