Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $200**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A strand of 20 incredibly large, pottery spindle whorls - all of rounded forms with finely incised linear and stylized geometric motifs. Spindle whorls were fitted onto spindles used for weaving in order to maintain or at times increase the speed of the spinning. In addition to this utilitarian purpose, they could be quite aesthetically pleasing as exemplified by these examples. Size: 26" L (66 cm); larger spindle whorls measure 1.625" W (4.1 cm) in diameter

Provenance: private Tacoma, Washington, USA collection
