Description
**Originally Listed At $300**

Greece, Tanagra, Boeotia, ca. 4th century BCE. A mold-made pottery plaque of a young man standing with hips thrust forward, one hand at his side and a round, shield-like item held in the other. Athletic young men were a very common artistic motif in ancient Greece, representing the idealization of youth that infused the society. Figures like these would have been sold outside of temples by artisans who mass-produced them; they were taken into the temples and placed as votive offerings. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2.7" W x 5.75" H (6.9 cm x 14.6 cm); height on stand: 6" (15.2 cm)
