JODOCUS HONDIUS (DUTCH. 1563-1612) MAP OF VIRGINIA AND THE SOUTHEAST, hand-colored, on laid paper, title in cartouche to upper left corner "VIRGINIAE / Item et / FLORIDAE / Americae Provinciarum, nova / DESCRIPTIO", flanked by depictions of Native American villages, with Dutch language text to reverse, most likely printed for Hondius' edition of Gerard Mercator's "Atlas Sive Cosmographia". Unframed. Circa 1606. 17" x 21 1/8" OA, 13 5/8" x 19 1/8" to neat lines.
Good condition overall, expected central fold-line, expected moderate toning, crease to lower left corner, several short tears to left edge, some which have tape backing, two repaired tears to top edge, and one to bottom edge, ring stain to right of title cartouche, some minor foxing.
