Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
East Asia, Japan, late Edo to early Meiji periods, ca. 19th century CE. A miniature vessel, glazed using a traditional Japanese and Chinese technique called "ash glazing." The vessel has a wonderful shape, with banded lines around a body that flares outward at the shoulder, then is corseted into a narrow neck before flaring out again into a broad, curved rim. The upper portion of the body has had the ash-glaze applied, creating a desirable drip effect from the rim down to the shoulder. Attached to the side - each one standing on a projecting platform - are a ceramic shell and a small human figure who reaches sideways as if he is climbing towards the shell. Size: 2" W x 3.4" H (5.1 cm x 8.6 cm)
Provenance: private S.S. collection, Los Angeles, California, USA
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
