Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 CE. An enormous bronze stirrup with a crescent-shaped body, twin flared terminals, and raised stippled designs just below each terminal, all covered in gorgeous green and beige patina. Ancient Iran was a culture rich in dramatic bronze creations. A class of nomadic horse lords and ladies commissioned bronze items from artisans in urban centers. Cast in a single piece using the lost-wax casting technique, this item and others showcasing the work of these bronze-smiths ultimately came to grace the graves of elite warriors. Size: 4.75" W x 4.25" H (12.1 cm x 10.8 cm).

Condition
Age-commensurate surface wear, fading to stippled designs, with some roughness, otherwise intact and excellent. Nice earthen deposits as well as beige and green patina throughout.
