Description
Ancient Near East, modern day northern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A long, flattened, leaf-shaped blade with a pointed midrib and a short, rectangular tang with a pierced terminal for attachment to a wooden handle. The style of the spearhead is probably a variation on the Type III (which has wide variety), from Marlik, a major archaeological site associated with Luristan - a mound that contained at least fifty-three tombs. Within these tombs, researchers found a large number of bronze spearheads, which they have theorized were very popular weapons for Marlik's warriors. Size: 13.5" L x 2.25" W (34.3 cm x 5.7 cm)
