Mark Tobey (1890-1976 American) ''White Writing'' 1955 Tempera on Paper 22''x15'' Sight. Museum quality ''all-over'' abstract composition of Tobey's signature calligraphic white writing, often compared to the work of Jackson Pollock. Multiple layers of electric white against a soft blue background with red accents. Signed and dated in red l.r. Gallery framed 28''x21''. Foster/White Gallery, Seattle label on verso with original receipt included from 1979. Brass wall placard affixed to verso. Work hung in the corporate offices of the Pay and Save Corporation, Seattle. Some small areas of naturally occurring craquelure on thickest areas of layering. Overall excellent condition. Ex. Dr. and Mrs. H.R. Greub, Switzerland (acquired from the artist). Collection of M. Lamont Bean (1924-2004) of Washington State, Former Chairman and CEO of the Pay and Save Corporation. Work is included in the Paul Cummings Archive c/o The Mark Tobey Project LLC.
