Description
Back in 1954, the year after Rolex first released their iconic Submariner, Tudor released theirs. It’s no secret, Tudor produced Submariners alongside Rolex and it’s no surprise as they all share the same design cues and made with most of the same parts!!
The black Tudor Sub up for auction is a reference 79090 from 1994. This watch has the same exact build as the traditional Rolex Submariner, but with a slightly different dial layout. The crown is the same triple-lock crown with the same Oyster case.
In the early '90s, Tudor reintroduced the Mercedes styled hands, which are present on this example. One other awesome thing about this Sub is that it still has the plexiglass crystal, something Rolex discontinued back in 1979 in favor for a sapphire crystal.
The case is in good shape and remains thick, with signs of a light polish and some additional minimal scuffs and scratches. The best thing about this watch is the patina on the dial; it has faded to a dark grey with vanilla indexes, hands, and lume dots that all match.
With the original bracelet showing minimal stretch, this is a very good example of a Tudor Sub, and at a more reasonable price point than a vintage Rolex Sub!
