A moon watch with patina is what all Speedy enthusiasts look for and that’s exactly what this reference 145.022-71 has to offer!
The reference 145.022 marked a major turning point in the history of the iconic Speedmaster. No longer powered by a column-wheel chronograph, the moonwatch now featured a simpler & more cost effective cam-controlled chronograph, otherwise know as caliber 861.
This was just about the only significant change made to the faithful Speedy, as this reference 145.022-71 has the same 42 mm case with lyre lugs of the previous reference 145.012 and the ever so attractive stepped dial.
Additionally, it should be noted that from 1969 onwards the logo was painted rather than applied, as you can see on this watch. Moving over to the case back this Speedy is the 1st reference to feature the medallion case back with the moniker, “The first watch worn on the moonâ€.
The ever so iconic Speedy black BASE 500 bezel has faded to a beautiful ghost grey and is reference correct with the DN90.
The original Hesalite crystal with Omega etching in the center is crisp and allows for an undistorted view of the mint dial. While the handsets are nearly perfect we can see a slightly darker streak in the minutes hand’s lume. The indexes on the other hand, which look killer on the stepped dial, have turned to a pastel lime color giving the dial that sought after vintage feel.
Last but not least this 145.022 has an excellent case with solid lines and minimal wear and tear. On the flipside the engravings on the case back are still deep and legible and the logo’s shape on the crown is from the correct period.
