Rare Babylonian Cuneiform Business Letter concerning a Boat, c. 1950 - 1650 B.C.
With 21 lines of Babylonian cuneiform on obverse, the reverse not preserved. A business letter from the old Babylonian period. It was sent by Imgur-Ninurta to a colleague and begins with a customary blessing: ÐMay (the Gods) Shamash and Amurrum make you live for ever...Ó then proceeds with the item of business about a boat.
The writer complains that his correspondent has not been effective.

Provenance: Bonhams auction, previously property of an Australian private collection, acquired in 1980, and formerly collection of Mr. J. Giltman, who began collecting in the 1950s and was a retired antique dealer in Balaclava, Victoria, Australia.
