Description
A portion of an Old Babylonian cuneiform tablet, c. 1900 - 1700 BC, inscribed with a business letter, and showing good surfaces with crisp writing. Old translation included and interprets the letter as reading "…he said, they will inform us of the coming of the governor, but before they inform (us) and pester you, pay up the…or the silver so that they will not pester you. This is what he said, and I am sending it to you, Do what is pleasing to you." 2 1/8 x 1 5/8 in (5.3 x 4.2 cm). Ex Shropshire, UK private collection.
